APEC and ATS software

APEC (Association pour l'emploi des cadres, France's job association for managers and professionals) is the first stop for many executives and professionals looking for work in France. What most don't realize is that the companies posting on APEC use their own ATS to filter applications.

When you apply through APEC, your CV is passed to the company's system. It goes through the same filters as on any other platform. So every ATS optimisation rule applies in full.

Your APEC profile: the first filter

APEC also has its own matching system. When you create your profile, you enter your skills, your industry and your salary level. This information is used to suggest job postings and to make you visible to recruiters searching for profiles.

An incomplete profile means less visibility. Take the time to fill in every field. Use precise terms for your skills, not vague phrasing.

What sets an executive CV apart

Executive roles have different ATS requirements than junior roles.

Your title should be precise and include your level. "Marketing Director" beats "Marketing." "Group Finance Manager" beats "Finance." Recruiters hiring executives often filter on level of responsibility.

Results should be quantified and show scale. An executive manages budgets, teams and projects. The expected numbers are more ambitious: "Managed a €2M budget," "Led a team of 25," "Grew revenue 35% over 2 years."

Certifications and continuing education matter. MBA, industry certifications (PMP, CFA, ITIL), management training. Large companies' ATS often filter on these criteria for executive roles.

Common mistakes on executive CVs on APEC

A CV that's too long. Many executives with 15-20 years of experience have 3-4 page CVs. ATS software has no problem with length, but recruiters do. Two pages max, prioritising the last 10 years.

Job descriptions instead of results. "Head of the sales department" says nothing about your performance. "Restructured the sales department: +45% revenue in 18 months, hired and trained 8 sales reps" says it all.

Too much internal jargon. Every company has its own lingo. "Project Phoenix" or "Horizon Program" means nothing to an ATS or an outside recruiter. Translate it into generic terms: "Digital transformation project," "Cost optimisation program."

The right format

  • Text-based PDF, 2 pages max
  • Title with job title + industry + scope
  • A 3-line summary with key results
  • Experience: the 3-4 most recent roles in detail, older ones summarised
  • Skills: technical + managerial
  • Education: main degree + certifications

Test your CV with an ATS scanner by comparing it to the APEC posting you're targeting. Add the missing keywords before you apply.
